Jos\u00e9 G\u00f3mez Casuso, Teka manager, was the agent of change as he did already with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teka.com\/en-sa\/inspiration\/emotions\/history-of-teka-sponsorship-in-sports-handball\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handball<\/a> GD Teka Santander team. After meeting the cyclist and huge cyclist supporter Santiago Revuelta, both decided to create the GD (<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Grupo Deportivo<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Sport club). In 1977, they won the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a in the team category, along with other races such as the Vuelta a Cantabria, L\u00e9rida, and Levante. They began to be regularly in the cycling scene and started signing national and local cyclists and international ones. In fact, cycling followers look back on these years with certain nostalgia because Spain began to be well-known in international competitions. It was an exciting time for the sport, and many supporters emerged during this decade. Many of the most renowned cyclists achieved their <strong>triumphs<\/strong> then and in the 1990s. Teka was a good example of these golden years. In 1982, the now-famous Marino Lejarreta won the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a with the Teka logo on his outfit. But his teammates had already obtained victories in other races, and new signings followed. <strong>No\u00ebl Dejonckheere<\/strong> or <strong>Reimund Dietzen<\/strong> were some of them, and subsequently, the team brought in experienced riders from Colombia for the first time in Spanish cycling, such as <strong>Edgar Corredor.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-129262\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teka.com\/en-sa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2024\/03\/teka-ciclismo2.jpg\" alt=\"Teka cyclist in a race with other cyclists\" width=\"700\" height=\"459\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.teka.com\/en-sa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2024\/03\/teka-ciclismo2.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.teka.com\/en-sa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/135\/2024\/03\/teka-ciclismo2-480x315.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 700px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By the mid-1980s, GD Teka\u2019s significance in cyclism was clear, and they had one of the highest national budgets. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GD achieved several victories in national competitions, including the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a as a team in 1984. In 1986, GD Teka was chosen as the <strong>Best Professional Team of the Year<\/strong>, and by then, they had the largest team in the team\u2019s history.
