Weekend mornings call for something comforting — something that smells like butter and warmth and doesn’t require setting an alarm. Enter our AirFry French Toast, a twist on the classic that keeps all the golden crispness and creamy inside but skips the pan full of oil. We love giving traditional recipes a modern spin, and the Teka AirFry oven makes that easy. The perforated tray and hot-air function crisp up each slice perfectly, so you get the same indulgent bite with none of the guilt (or mess). It’s the kind of breakfast that makes you want to stay in your pyjamas a little longer — and honestly, why not?

Ingredients

  • 400 ml whole milk
  • 200 ml heavy cream or whipping cream
  • 80 g sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Peel of 1 orange
  • 2 egg yolks
  • Thick bread or brioche slices (sufficient for 6 servings)
  • ⅔ of the milk-cream infusion (for soaking bread)
  • ⅔ whole eggs (≈ 3 eggs)
  • Olive oil spray
  • 100 g sugar + 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for coating

Preparation

  1. For the milk infusion: combine the whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, cinnamon stick and orange peel in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and cover for about 5 minutes to infuse. Remove the cinnamon stick and orange peel.
  2. Reserve ⅔ of the infusion for soaking the bread slices; keep the remaining ⅓ in the saucepan for the crème anglaise.
  3. To make the crème anglaise: whisk the egg yolks in a bowl, add part of the infusion and whisk again to combine. Heat this mixture over low-medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens (ensure the temperature does not exceed 85 °C to prevent curdling). Once thickened, set aside in a jar to cool or reach room temperature.
  4. For the French toast: whisk the eggs with the milk-cream infusion reserved for soaking. Slice the bread to your desired thickness and arrange the slices in a tray. Soak them for 10 minutes each side (for brioche) or at least 1 hour for other types of bread.
  5. Pre-heat the AirFry mode of the Teka oven to 200 °C. Place the soaked bread slices on the perforated AirFry tray lined with parchment. Add a light spray of olive oil. Bake for 7 minutes on one side, flip them, spray again with oil, and bake for another 3 minutes until golden brown on that side.
  6. Once done, remove from oven, let cool for a minute, coat the slices with the mixture of sugar + cinnamon, and serve immediately with the crème anglaise on the side (or poured over).

Chef's tip!

Let the toast rest just a moment before diving in — it helps the interior set and gives that perfect “custard-like” texture. If you feel fancy, dust with extra cinnamon, add a scoop of ice cream, or drizzle with warm caramel for the full indulgence.
