Pizza is the star of Friday night, and Saturday night, Sunday, and even some Mondays or Tuesdays... ok, pizza is perfect anytime, it doesn't matter when, that's a fact. But we want to dress pizza with something and pay tribute to this meal. For so many hours of happiness for our stomachs. That's why today we cook... the star pizza! (applause).

Ingredients

  • 3 pizza dough bases
  • Tomato sauce (enough to spread one and a half layers)
  • Approx. 200 g grated mozzarella
  • 6 slices of cooked ham (or ham-style topping)
  • 1 beaten egg (for brushing)

Preparation

  1. Spread one pizza base over parchment paper, cover with a tablespoon of tomato sauce (leaving the edge clear), place a small mound of grated cheese in the centre and, around it, three slices of ham. Sprinkle additional cheese on top.
  2. Place a second pizza base on top of the first. Gently press around the contour of the cheese mound to create a little hill in the centre. Spread the remaining tomato sauce across the surface (leaving the outer edge clear). Add another mound of cheese in the centre and three more slices of ham around it. Sprinkle the remaining cheese.
  3. Cover with the third pizza base. Press again around the central mound. Also press around the outer edge of the pizza so all three layers adhere. Trim the circle with a sharp knife to even it out.
  4. Cut 12 slices from the edge into the centre (do not cut through the centre point). Twist each of the 12 segments a couple of times. Brush the entire pizza with the beaten egg. Transfer the pizza to a metal baking tray or oven rack.
  5. Preheat the oven to 220 °C (top + bottom heat). Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pizza is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbling.

Chef's tip!

Serve this pizza while it’s still hot so you can enjoy the full show of melted mozzarella oozing from each twisted tip of the star-shaped slices.
